DatAgro featured on the Ashoka Changemakers Blog
The good folks at Ashoka highlighted the DatAgro project on their blog. The DatAgro project uses MIP technology to send text messages to farmers in
Chile with weather, news and crop prices.
Moving forward with the MIP SMS project
When I started at DataDyne.org last April, we were just starting to test the MIP. We spent several afternoons sending and logging text messages. Imagine a room full of people talking to our developer via speakerphone and staring deliberately at their cell phones waiting for a
text message to come through.
DataDyne and the DatAgro project in Infoweek Chile
DataDyne.org and the DatAgro project are profiled in the online magazine Infoweek that follows techonology, innovation and business in Chile. They did a nice job of capturing what makes DataDyne.org unique in our approach to mobile technology.
Infoweek Chile covers the DatAgro Roll Out Event
Infoweek covered the recent Roll Out for the DatAgro project in Peumo. The article nicely details the system, the partners and the beta testing process.
Knight News Challenge accepting proposals!
It's time for another round of the annual Knight News Challenge, a competition for the best ideas regarding news, journalism, and the digital distribution of information. We know the great people at the Knight Foundation well, having received a previous Knight grant for our Mobile Information Project (MIP) which is currently in operation in Chile. In addition to the funding, the News Challenge has played a great role in connecting us with other innovators and potential funders.

"At a small agrarian cooperative in Chile, farmers with little access
to the internet have a new source of farming information: text
messaging.
The messages, a combination of national and international news and
farming information about topics like weather and pricing, are part of
a project called DatAgro, which aims to bring relevant farming information to rural populations that have little access to computers."
