It's time for another round of the annual Knight News Challenge, a competition for the best ideas regarding news, journalism, and the digital distribution of information. We know the great people at the Knight Foundation well, having received a previous Knight grant for our Mobile Information Project (MIP) which is currently in operation in Chile. In addition to the funding, the News Challenge has played a great role in connecting us with other innovators and potential funders.

DataDyne's DatAgro SMS project wins Yahoo Green Award!

DataDyne's DatAgro project just won the Yahoo Green Award, and the FACT Award at the NetSquared N2Y4 conference in San Jose, CA.

The Yahoo Green Award recognizes innovative use of mobile phones to inspire cooperation for social development and environmental protection, while the FACT award (for the French American Charitable Trust) recognizes technology and other projects that address fundamental inequalities and injustices in our society.

COOPEUMO 40th Anniversary Celebration

Last Friday marked the 40th anniversary of COOPEUMO, a farming cooperative in Peumo, Chile. For the past 40 years this community has been working together to provide food for their country and a better standard of living for their families. Over four hundred small producers participate in the cooperative.
