Are mobile phones a nutritional supplement?

As we all know by now, mobile phone use is skyrocketing.  In Columbia, for example, there are more mobile subscribers per 100 inhabitants than in the US (92 vs 87 as of 2008 data)! And in Africa, about 40% of the population owns a mobile phone –  from essentially zero ownership 10 years ago. 

There is a lot of talk these days about "mHealth", but there's another way that mobiles are affecting health: as a labor-saving device.

EpiSurveyor Embraced at University of Nairobi,Kenya

Datadyne and University of Nairobi have started collobaration which aims at promoting mHealth activities within the University and local communities.Saturday 19th/06/2010 marks the turning point as the first batch of lecturers and friends of Naiobi University were trained on EpiSurveyor.

Improving the health of Mothers & New Born Babies

This is the theme of this year Malezi Bora Week in Kenya.Its a bi-annual activity where health workers intergrate all the intervention aimed at improving the lives of the mother and child.The first phase Malezi bora activity will run  from 3rd-15th ,May 2010 while the second phase will be held between 1st-12, November 2010.

Yusuf Ibrahim of Kenya MOH presents EpiSurveyor at mHealth conference in Washington

Yusuf Ajack Ibrahim, Kenya Ministry of Health liaison to DataDyne.org, presented on the use of EpiSurveyor to fight polio in Kenya at the mHealth Summit in Washington, DC on October 28th, 2009.

Yusuf outlined the tremendous increase in capacity that EpiSurveyor has brought to Kenya's public health community -- producing spontaneous applause both when he said that "EpiSurveyor is helping us drive the consultants out of Kenya" and when he noted that EpiSurveyor is largely produced in Nairobi by our Kenyan development team.

End of SIAD round 2 polio campaign in Kenya

Congratulations to the teams on the ground for good job done in combating the spread of Polio. Despite the short interval additional doses (SIAD) strategy done in Kenya for the first time. Special thanks to WHO, CDC, Datadyne, and District Medical officers of health in districs bordering the larger Turkana and above all our vollunteers and vaccinators for braving the scorching sun and ensuring that the districts met their campaign objectives.
